| Currently in preparation is "The Glengarry Collection: The Highland Fiddle Music of Aonghas Grant." This will gather together for the first time several hundred transcriptions of Aonghas' large and varied repertoire. It will include old and new music, much of it unpublished, and all of it with the characteristics so endemic of his playing style, and stories too.
A committee made up of Barbara McOwen, Peggy Duesenberry, and Laura Risk, with assistance by David H. Arnold, and financial assistance from the New Hampshire Gathering and Scottish Clans, is now gathering materials and getting them into publishable format. Watch for news of the publication, due in 2008.
UPDATE - December 2007 - Work continues actively on Volume One. It's about 3/4 done! There are 5 music chapters - 1) Slow Airs; 2) Marches; 3) Strathspeys & Reels; 4) Jigs; and 5) Hornpipes. Chapters 2, 3 and 4 are camera-ready on their second-to-last draft. Chapters 1 & 5 are one stage behind that. The writing of the extensive Introductory materials is almost done. The book contains about 170 tunes, with transcriptions of Aonghas' bowings, grace notes and variants. It also contains many stories, comments, and photos. We are planning to include a DVD with the book, which will contain videos of Aonghas playing tunes and telling stories, and color photos. It is a large work with a phenomenal amount of detail and it's thoroughly exciting to work on this project, and to have this special connection with this great fiddler.
